Seriki, Omatek Boss Urges Govt to Drive Job Creation via Local Content Policy

Mrs. ‎Florence Seriki, chief executive officer, Omatek Ventures Limited, has stated that  implementing  local content  policy in the IT/ICT sector remains critical in Federal Government's drive to  stamp out unemployment.

‎Seriki made the remark during Barrister Adebayo Shittu, minister of Communications' a-day working visit to the Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) plant in Lagos, adding that  FG's focus on technology sector serves better in diversifying the economy.

She said; "Omatek will be 30 years by 2016 and we thus far far created a solid foundation by showcasing to the world that Nigeria is a hub of innovation and creativity leveraging not just desktop hardware technology but also solar power tech solutions."

Though many ministers have come to see what we do here at Omatek by way of showing support and see the need for government to begin to look in the direction of indigenous players in the technology industry to drive key sectors of the economy.

"But record has it that to bridge the digital gap in Nigeria, government really have to look inward. And we ‎at Omatek have demonstrated skill, capacity and innovation to be able to handle national projects as we have exemplified in various federal tertiary institutions, banks, Ministries, Department and Angencies for both federal and state governments and the Nigeria Stock Exchange(NSC).

Seriki opined that Nigeria can ditch its consumerism status, adding that Omatek is aware ..." that government cannot do it all, but we are ready to support if the public private partnership model is adopted in this new government administration."

She further dropped the hint on the new Omatek solar tech solution to power Automated Teller Machines(ATM) of some commercial banks in the country emohising that Nigeria can be able to use both hardware and software for revolution of wealth, industrial collaboration and local patronage‎.

The minister who made the factory tour during the visit was pleased with effort on ground in the bid to make Nigeria a solution provider and technology source for Africa at large.

"I am pleased with what i saw. I know that Nigeria as an economy has diverse areas to generate wealth and capacity building to drive away unemployment. It is high time Nigeria begin to patronise Nigeria. Omatek has the potential to serve virtually all sectors of the economy,"‎ Shittu said.
