Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, executive governor of Kano state, has charged the state ministry of science and technology to make proper use of the local potentials available within the ministry in order to become proactive in various technological skills and develop resources that would make life better for the people of the state.
This he said at the opening of the presentation of a work plan on appropriate technology and exhibition seminar organized by the ministry at the Imam Wali Conference Centre, Kano.
According to the statement, Shekarau explained that human development is one of the priorities of his administration especially now that ICT is the current trend. He said the growing importance of ICT necessitated his courage to make Kano one of the best ICT driven state in the North, adding that his administration had set up machinery for the promotion of science and technology.
The governor noted that the ministry was mandated to formulate and implement policies that would be workable for the improvement of technology skills, encourage research and development of ICT in the state.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the ministry’s achievement in the last four mouths of its creation by conceiving the idea of an appropriate technology program that would map out a detailed work plan to guide its implementation.
Dr. Bashir Galadanci, special assistant to the governor on ICT, and state commissioner for science and technology, said the occasion was fashioned for the ministry and its stakeholders to rub minds together and initiate a work plan that would promote the development of an appropriate technology for the state.
He said the ICT Park was making tremendous impact on the state in the area of technological advancement.
