SkyVision, a leading global Internet protocol connectivity service provider, plans to slash cost of internet access in the country by 25% through an investment of over 2 billion naira.
Mark Gazit, president and chief executive officer, SkyVision, said in Lagos at the celebration of its first 10 customers of the newly launched SkyVision Combi; that the company is investing the money on acquisition of equipment for the Combi and delivering it at zero cost to its partners to enable them drive down the cost of internet access to last mile subscribers.
He said that the major cause of high cost of internet which has prohibited most Nigerians from using it, is the cost of equipment and that with its partners not paying for the equipment, they hope that many more Nigerians living in rural areas will have access to the Internet especially school children that are in dire need of Internet for their educational pursuits.
"A low-cost solution with no start up fee is ideal to meet the growing demand for broadband access and the next generation applications which in Nigeria, are growing faster than anywhere else in the world," he said.
According to him, SkyVision Combi will be mainly using the powerful inclined orbit AfricaSat-1 satellite. SkyVision Combi was launched in June this year and is already delivering its service to General Data & engineering, its first customer in Nigeria and over 10 new customers currently completing their SkyVision Combi installation.
SkyVision Combi he said is designed first and foremost to deliver high-capacity Internet access in a package that makes it readily accessible to new customers and will affect every person in Nigeria by its universal offering of cost-effective broadband internet connectivity.
"SkyVision Combi is an innovative solution combining advanced technology and high-capacity Internet service designed for a mature Internet market with the advantage of ground breaking package pricing designed to upgrade existing Internet communication capabilities while removing the implementation barriers traditionally associated with massive upgrade to communications solution," Gazit said.
He added that the service offerings include the complete earth station, on-site installation, training and unlimited high-speed bandwidth, all for an affordable single monthly fee.
