First, a testimonial: “I have received tweets from folk who have newly joined Twitter or those who had accounts but never tweeted. A particular person who was guided by his 14-year-old daughter on how to join Twitter as well as tweet, used his TL yesterday to post an exclusive on the capital market. We spoke thereafter and I told him he should do more of that. Sooner or later, he will be the one to follow for capital market tidbits. If you can touch my heart, you would be shocked by the electricity it radiates. True.”

That’s Mr Taiwo Obe, a Commonwealth Professional Fellow and founder/director, The Journalism Clinic, talking about the impact of the Summit on Functional Social Networking for Nigerian Journalists he convened in February, under the aegis of the Clinic and his other online group, EverythingJournalism, and sponsored by United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group.

Journalists in Abuja should get ready for their own summit.

According to Obe, the United Bank of Africa Group, in keeping with the promise of Mr Phillips Oduoza, the group managing director and chief executive officer, is sponsoring what has been tagged “The Capital Edition” holding on 25 June at Chams City in Abuja.

The format is changing from panel discussions to presentations by some of the panelists in the Lagos edition – Shina Badaru, founder/publisher, Technology Times, Pelu Awofeso, travel writer and author; Dapo Olorunyomi, MD/E-in-C Premium Times; Lekan Otufodunrin, managing editor, Online, The Nation; Dr Anderson Uvie-Emegbo, leading African digital media specialist and Dr Adeyinka Adedeji, divisional head, e-banking of UBA plc.

Others are Ms Yemi Adamolekun, executive director, EnoughIsEnough; Lara Wise, anchor AIT; Abdulwasiu Hassan, deputy online editor, Media Trust; Ms Rosemary Ajayi, Technical Assistant (Strategic Communications) to Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti State. Social Media Strategist and Content Producer; Emeka Azuka Okoye, software developer and CEO Vikanti Limited; Azubuike Ishiekwene, GMD Leadership  and Olusegun Adeniyi, chairman, Editorial Board, THISDAY.

Going by Mr Oduoza’s promise the likelihood is that the summit will move to another region after The Capital Edition.

What Dollar Strength Cycle Mean for Traders

By Ugo Onwuaso21 Aug 2026

The USD still ranks among the major forces that drive financial markets all over the world. When the USD gains in value, it rarely affects currency pairs alone; it may have implications for commodities, stock market indices, capital movement, and risk appetite.
