Some stakeholders in the information and communications technologies (ICTs) sector have urged the federal government to set up a task force to protect ICT infrastructure because of the critical nature of the equipment.
They also solicited the support of other tiers of governments, communities, subscribers and individuals arguing that attacks on ICT infrastructure have ripple effects on national security, quality of service and revenue.
These were part of the communiqué at the end of the Critical ICT Infrastructure Roundtable organised by the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) and Communication Week Media in Lagos on Wednesday.
Participants drawn from the ICT industry, security agencies, media and the general public decried the growing attacks on ICT infrastructure and resolved to aid actions to stem the tide.
The roundtable had the theme: “Protecting Telecoms Infrastructure to Ensure Quality of Service Delivery to Subscribers and Safeguard Investments”
The event recognized that ICT Network is a network that protects other network such as security, national health services, emergency services, banking among others and therefore need to be protected.
The roundtable called for appropriate sanctions against vandals and encouraged police to arrest and prosecute vandals.
