Starcomms Unveils Facebook, Twitter on Phones

Starcomms has introduced Facebook, Twitter, Hi5 & MySpace the world-acclaimed social networking and micro-blogging services available on its network which is a first in Nigeria. Now, even without a laptop or a personal computer and outside the comfort of the home or office, Starcomms subscribers can use their mobile phones to send and receive tweets from their Twitter accounts for diverse purposes.
Tushar Maheshwari the chief commercial officer of Starcomms said that using Twitter with Starcomms phone will change the way people tweet and communicate with friends and followers.  “They can receive Tweets via SMS when people they specify update on twitter website. They can also send updates to Twitter on the go,” he said.
For Starcomms subscriber to avail themselves of the service, they must be registered on the networking site of choice. To start accessing these websites subscriber would be required to pair their Starcomms phone to the preferred website. To make use of this service for Facebook, Starcomms subscribers have to send SMS F to a short code 33397 using Starcomms phones and then to access http://apps.facebook.com/mobisocialStarcomms subscribers can access twitter through a short code, 33399. They can then send REG (user name) (password) to the short code to register. With this they can add their phones to their twitter account or establish a twitter account through their phones. Once the Starcomms phone is registered on the networking website the subscriber then can start enjoying Tweets on Twitter and SMS’s on other networking sites from their contacts or followers.
Similarly for Facebook the subscriber can send and receive messages or invitations, receive notifications write on friend’s FB walls and on contact’s FB walls, update status and view friend’s profile via SMS. Users can search for the long lost contacts / acquaintances, accept an invitation or invite their friends / contacts via SMS on either of these networking websites.
For Twitter,` using Starcomms phone, subscribers can get tweets from BBC, CNN and get update from their Twitter followers on their Starcomms phones, they can also follow Lagostraffic, Nolligist and loads of such services available on twitter.com. They can use the service to post and receive messages to a network of contacts, organize Tweets conference by SMS and invite their followers to events. Instead of sending many e-mails or text messages, they can as well send one message to their Twitter account, and the service distributes it to all targets audiences as Tweets.
With Starcomms Social Networking service a subscriber can post and receive on either of these website of choice using Starcomms phone via SMS which will cost them only N8 per SMS for Facebook, Hi5 & MySpace, and N10 to access Twitter.com.
Any modification or update will reflect on subscriber’s networking page instantly and the contact would receive their notification free of charge. If the friends / contacts / followers have Starcomms phone then they will received notification instantly on their phone too. The service is available on both the Starcomms mobile and desktop phones.
