StarTimes Welcomes Sport 2 Channel
StarTimes has unveiled a new channel, StarTimes Sport 2.
The channel is dedicated to airing a variety of sports on the pay-tv platform.
Irete Anetor, public relations manager of the NTA-Star Network, said that StarTimes Sport 2 has a rich, diverse and global outlook aimed at meeting the teeming needs of current and prospective customers, who are constantly looking out for rich sports content.
“It will offer our sports inclined customers as well as prospects a diverse range of sports like soccer, tennis, golf, rugby, car-racing, cricket and extreme sports.
“Soccer lovers have a lot to watch out for on StarTimes Sport 2 as we have the exclusive rights to air some soccer competitions.” He noted that the content of StarTimes Sport 2 will include live broadcasts and highlights, sport news, sport programs, sports movies and exercise education,” he said.
StarTimes will air the Guinness International Champions Cup and the European Qualifiers for UEFA EURO 2016 on the new channel as the pay-tv has acquired the exclusive rights to air these competitions on its platform.
The channel will also be home to Summer Football (2014), and Ligue 1 matches amongst other exciting sports line-up.
Anetor stated that with the Guinness International Cup, starting on the 25th of July, soccer fans can catch up with some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs as they engage in the competitive tournament, which is a transformation of traditional European club preseason tours.
“Twelve of Europe’s most prestigious football clubs would be involved in the tournament; the clubs include Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, AC Milan and Liverpool FC,” he said
He added that soccer fans should look-out for the exciting line-up of the legendary Gunner’s summer programme in the Summer Football (2014), which started airing as the new channel launched on the pay-tv platform.
Anetor noted that StarTimes is committed to ensuring that its customers enjoy the best of digital television with the provision of high quality channel.
“We would not therefore relent in ensuring that we meet the demands of our customers as we have done with the launch of this new sports channel.”
StarTimes Sport 2 started airing on the StarTimes platform on 19 July.
The channel is available on the StarTimes Basic, Classic and Unique Bouquet. Other channels dedicated to sports on the pay-tv platform are Sports 24, Setanta Action, Setanta Africa, NBA TV, and MCS Sports.

StarTimes is the only licensed Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) pay TV operator in Nigeria.
It started its operations in Nigeria as NTA-STAR TV Network Limited with the joint venture between Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Star Communication Network CO, Limited of China.
It was incorporated in August 2009 as a private limited liability company. The company was officially launched on the 29th of July 2010.
