Sterling Bank plc has nibbled a humble pie and has apologised to banks it hit with its recent viral media campaign.

In an apology, Sterling Banks said

“Our apologies go out to all the banks -the likeness of whose logos & buildings featured in a post which we have since deleted. We remain committed to building an organisation that enables our youth find expression & we will continue to do this in the most responsible fashion.

Our apologies go out to all the banks -the likeness of whose logos & buildings featured in a post which we have since deleted.

Recall that Sterling Bank ignited an ugly war on the social media with its new advert campaign which was released on Friday, July 20, which jibed some banks in the country.

Some of the banks affected then took turns to swing back at Sterling Bank.

It all started with the advert creative of Sterling bank which showed a man, while accessing banking services, discovered that he was experiencing regression with arrows going down (Access Bank); got jailed or duped (GTBank); had an elephant that was too sluggish to him to his destination (First Bank) and got a stallion carrying with no direction (Union Bank).

The joke was that about 6 banks’ buildings/logos were literally on ground in the ad, with the Sterling Bank customer heading to the moon.

Sterling Bank has however apologised but the affected banks- Access Bank, Union Bank, First Bank, FCMB were taciturn at the time of this report.
