Bruce Ayonote, group chief executive officer, Suburban Telecom West Africa, has reiterated the commitment of his company to bring backbone connectivity and other telecom value added services to West African sub-region.
Suburban Telecom is a next generation telecom backbone connectivity provider.
He explained that the recent deployment of inland optic fibre by the company to the sub region has expanded its last mile infrastructure to operators for lease.
Ayonote said Suburban is using the inland fibre optic to consolidate regional networks by providing the needed tools for them to leverage on their connectivity for quality service delivery to the end users.
He added that in as much as there is need for a common currency for West African countries, so is the need for regional integration through information technology.
According to him, Nigeria needs up to 20,000 mast to enable it provide quality service to consumers, explaining that Britain is small in size and population yet they have more than 40,000 mast and are planning to have more, while Nigeria is larger in size and in population.
He calls for more telecom infrastructure providers that will provide the needed infrastructure for most of the operators to leverage on in the provision of service to consumers. He said such support service providers should have international backbone network for competition especially t the internet service providers.
