Tecno Lights Up Computer Village with 88 Solar Powered Streetlights‎

Olufemi Odubiyi, ‎commissioner for Science and Technology, Lagos State, led other dignitaries at the commissioning of eighty-eight solar powered streetlights donated by Tecno Telecoms Limited.

‎The popular Ikeja electronics market popularly known as “Ikeja Computer village” and comprises of three communities, woke up to an atmosphere of excitement on Thursday as dignitaries from  the State and the Local Governments, community and market leaders and members of the press, converged on the market ground to commission the Tecno corporate social responsibility project.

Tagged, “Light up Ikeja” project, the eighty eight (88) high end solar-powered streetlights were fullly installed by Arthur Energy Technology Ltd to Tecno’s Ikeja hosts as a token of appreciation for years of peaceful co-existence.

Speaking at the ceremony, Olufemi Odubiyi, ‎commissioner for Science and Technology, Lagos State, ‎expressed the State Government’s delight over Tecno’s magnanimity and showcase of grateful attitude towards the host communities.

Odubiyi, said that the State ‎wi continue to partner with corporate orgsnisations and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to better the worth of the people, especially those who are not tax defaulters.

He said that Tecno has shown acts worth emulating by other players in the community adding that Computer Village ‎remains a toast of smart gadget manufacturers.

The Commissioner added that the Governor Akinwumi Ambode led administration in the keen to empowering the masses, to achieve more and live better lives, adding that Tecno has already queued-in into the vision through the ‎CSR projects that will enhance security in the area.

“We’re elated as an agency to see what Tecno has done here today and we look forward topartnerships between private corporations like Tecno, who are community-centric and the government to bring life changing projects to the people,” said the Commissioner for Science and Technology.

‎Addressing guests in his opening speech Mr. Chidi Okonkwo, managing director of Tecno Telecoms Limited, pledged the OEM’s continued investments on broad spectrum of community-centric projects to better the lives people in its sphere of operations.

Okonkwo said, ‎“It is proven that private corporations with strong community focus in their business agenda tend to prosper better than the others. We’ll like to use this avenue to encourage other businesses and corporations in the area to show commitment to community development by spearheading projects that have lasting impact on the community.”

According to the managing director, the Company’s interest does not lie solely on driving up its market domince , rather it treasures manufacturing smart, rugged, but pocket-friendly devices to ensure Nigerians have best smartphone experience.

“If you look at Tecno in this market, we tend to set the pace in terms of giving users different experience. We are not primarily focused on driving market shares, as some may suggest that is why we are executing this project, rather we are Nigerians’ friends; we know what they want and try to give it to them,” he said.

‎Representing the host community, Mr Godfrey Nwosu, president of the Phones and ‎Allied Products Dealers Association, (PAPDAN), said that in over two decades Computer Village has been in existence, no OEM has done such Street lighting project which will ‎help beef up security in the market.

‎Nwosu, also aligned with other speakers, adding that the Government must not forget CSR projects of the magnitude while seeking for corporate organisations to work with.

“We must commend Tecno for this project. Aside making life better for traders in the market, it shows that our foreign partners understand the need to give back to the community that enhances their performances. Computer Village is a place of elevation for many, but only handful will remember to do a thing like this.

“We also not to urge the government to identity and work with corporate entities like Tecno ‎who are not in the market to just make gains and not give back to the people. Same time, this is the time companies must live up to expectations by paying their taxes and maintain standards while manufacturing their products”, the PAPDAN president said. ‎

The iFLUX engineered streetlights of have a two years warranty cover and will enjoy maintenance for optimum operation by Carlcare, another subsidiary of Trassion Holdings and still the parent company of Tecno Mobile.

The height of the occasion was a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Commissioner of Science and Technology, Olufemi Odubiyi, the tecno MD, Mr. Chidi Okonkwo, representatives from the Local governmentarea, community and market leaders and members of thepress to mark the official commissioning of the project.
