Truecaller: Spammer Made 7m Calls in 2016, Nigeria Also Fingered

Looking back on how the world communicated using Truecaller app in 2016, Trueinsights records 23 million spammers calls were made during the year- from January to October 2016.

During the period, there was 90% increase on spam coverage on iOS 10 with callers from countries like Germany, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Egypt, Italy, United States, France, India and South Africa as leading the roll.

Shockingly, one Egyptian made 7 million spammer calls during the time, Truecaller recorded said in a document released earlier in December, 2016.

Truecaller is a mobile application, which is a worldwide number lookup service. Which means through this app you can find owner of any Mobile number without calling to that number.

Meanwhile, two billion calls were made with Truecaller, which also blocked 2.5 billion calls during the period.

Tuesday is the most talkative day of the week as Somalia is the country making the most calls per user, while Japan makes the least number of calls per user

Also, the most popular tags are banks, doctors, restaurants and hotels, as 250 million mobile phone users also use Truecaller globally.

The data was aggregated anonymously from incoming and outgoing calls during the period of January 1st, 2016 to October 31, 2016 to understand the trends and usage.

“These insights are purely based on our internal data and does not reflect the entire usage of any of the services and Truecaller does not warrant the accuracy or completeness of such data, and all derivative conclusions or assumption are those of the readers only,” the Company said in a document obtained by Nigeria CommunicationsWeek.
