The app, tailored for the fast-evolving needs of a connected and mobile population, offers seamless ways to send money abroad anytime, anywhere.

Western Union’s Head of Africa, Mohamed Touhami el Ouazzani, said South Africa’s digitally savvy consumers with cross-border ties now have flexibility and confidence through their global network spanning 200 countries.

The co-branded Sasai-Western Union service integrates Sasai’s Payments-as-a-Service platform, allowing transfers to billions of bank accounts, wallets or thousands of cash pickup points worldwide.

Customers can fund transfers via Sasai’s 150,000 retail outlets, debit/credit cards or bank electronic funds transfers.

Darlington Mandivenga, CEO of Fintech and Digital Platforms at Cassava Technologies, said the partnership accelerates financial inclusion for Africans in the diaspora using regulated tech, super apps and innovations like stablecoins.

South Africa has one of Africa’s most digitally engaged populations, with nearly 80 per cent of households having internet access, 73 per cent via mobile devices, according to the 2023 General Household Survey.

Outbound personal remittances exceeded one billion dollars in 2024.

The app is available for download on Android and iOS smartphones for quick registration, identity verification and global transfers.
