Winners Emerge in Nokia’s Create for Millions Competition

Nokia is living up to its promise to connect the next billion to the internet using its platform, the Nokia phone. One of the moves is to push for the development of quality applications for their S40 mobile platform. And Nokia is doing just that.
The Nokia-sponsored competition for mobile app developers in West Africa (Create for Millions Competition) has produced 3 winners. The Vice President of Nokia West Africa, Mr. James Rutherfoord explained that the competition was part of Nokia’s strategy to deliver mobile phones and services for the next billion.
Mr. Rutherfoord said “competitions of this nature would help improve the quality of locally relevant apps on Nokia’s range of devices.” He said West African developers were one of the most active in participating in the global leg of the apps competition at the end of 2011.
The apps that won from West Africa include: My cash by teXs; Maths Practice by Sinelimit and Danfo by Pledge 51. My cash by teXs was voted the overall best app and will receive a prize of $5,000. Nokia is also sponsoring all 3 app developers to Barcelona Spain to attend Mobile World Congress – the largest mobile conference in the world. The move is expected to give the app developers needed international exposure. All the apps that were entered for the Nokia Create for Millions competition are available in the Nokia store.
Only a week ago, Nokia handed over two Hyundai Accent cars to the grand prize winner of its Nokia dual SIM promo. The move was part of efforts to thank its teaming customers for their patronage and support. The world leading manufacturer of mobile phones has also recently unveiled the Nokia 200, which a dual SIM phone with an amazing QWERTY key pad.
