Zain Nigeria has launched its Global System of Mobile Communication (GSM) fixed phones product in the North Central Region, having already installed over 500 terminals of the product across the country.
Zain assured that it would with these remove barriers to communication and provide all Nigerians unrestricted access to telecom services irrespective of their status, age, location or geography and level of income.
With the launch of the product, Zain Nigeria became the first to introduce GSM fixed phones in the country having earlier in April rolled out the product in some university communities such as Covenant University, Ota and Redeemer University, Mowe, both in Ogun state South Western region; several villages including Awgu and Ogurute in South Eastern Region and in Ikom in South-South region of the country.
The Zain Nigeria Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bayo Ligali said the launch at the Abuja Capital International College (ACIC), Gwarinpa afforded Zain the opportunity to live up to its promise of helping people to enjoy a wonderful world through the provision of access to telecom service.
He said, "we are empowering more people by not only providing access to these services but also making it affordable to all particularly to the youths and low income earners" at the urban and rural areas.
Mr. Ligali who was represented by the Zain’s Chief sales officer, Mr. Tayo Bright explained that the product eliminates the barrier to entry such as the need to own a mobile phone.
According to him, "with Zain fixed phone or unmanned payphone you do not need a handset before you can make and receive a call or send and receive short messages or listen to a voicemail.
"Indeed, the product allows the users to perform similar tasks that they can perform tasks that they can perform with handsets, such as making and receiving calls, sending and receiving short messages, retrieving voicemail and so on. They can also migrate to our new offer, the Zain TRU package".
He assured the determination of Zain to offer Nigerians a pleasant experience despite the serious challenges such as epileptic power supply, general poor security situation, theft and wanton destruction of optic fiber cables and multiple taxations, among other barriers.
He called on Nigerians to rise up to the challenge of protecting telecom infrastructure in the communities because any single damage will have multiple negative effects.
Also speaking, the principal of College, Mrs. E Idris expressed appreciation to Zain for choosing the College for the launch of the product in the North Central region.
She congratulated Zain on its giant strides in providing efficient communication services at cheapest prices to Nigerians and urged them to keep up the tempo.
