ZTE Corporation, a leading global maker of telecommunications equipment and network solutions and mobile devices and publicly-listed company posted a net profit of about $90.5m (RMB 552m) for the nine-month quarter ending in September 2013.

That represents an increase of about 132% when compared to same period a year earlier, as the company executed its operational strategy to improve cash flow & raise profitability.

Brielle Gao, managing director, ZTE Corporation (Nigeria) disclosed this in Lagos at the weekend, adding that leading global maker of telecommunications equipment and network solutions and mobile devices has maintained effective presence in Nigeria for close to 10 years with stable, long term partnership with Federal Government and major private telecommunications operators.

Gao said that ZTE’s operations in Nigeria span through building telecom infrastructure for private operators for government & institution to providing telecoms solution in specialized areas.

The MD said: “Internationally, ZTE continued to focus its efforts in major & globally leading carriers, and gained strong momentum in key sectors such as enterprise and government ICT solutions, services and mobile devices, while consolidating its share of the telecoms network infrastructure market.

“Looking ahead to the next reporting period, equipment investments by the telecoms industry will remain focused on wireless and broadband systems and their ancillary transmissions networks. We expect more positive figures in subsequent reports.

“ZTE will continue to drive product innovation & solution based operations with a strong focus on mainstream products, while seeking to improve research and development.

To us, Nigeria is a key market for telecoms growth in Africa & the world. Here you have very dynamic and versatile market driven by high population of tech-trendy and unassuming end-users. With our competition, robust, innovative solutions and technologies, ZTE is best poised for strong presence in this market.

“Throughout year 2013 we strengthened our relationship with the local operators. We are currently involved in facilitating upgrade with some major operators in Nigeria. We hope that in the coming year, we will continue to offer more efficient up to date infrastructure that aim not only boost mobile phone services but particularly catalyze access to broadband services”.

Citing the National Public Security Project Communications System (NPSCS) project, Gao said that ZTE is very proud to have delivered secured, modern e-security platform & solutions to the Nigerian government & the Nigerian people. “The NPSCS project remains a security issue and should be treated as such, but suffice it to say that the project is indeed an all desirous step towards providing modern infrastructure for public security and the e-policing in Nigeria,” he said.

The MD also said that during the year under review, the Company initiated the ZTE ICT lab project for primary and secondary schools. “With this project, ZTE plans to make donation of ICT laboratories to police children school located at Mopol 20 Barracks, Ikeja, Lagos. The lab which is ready for commissioning is equipped with 20 modern desktops computers with UPS accessories and a Laserjet office printer,” he explained.

The desktops shall be linked with internet facilities.
