BBC Worldwide Channels has announced the launch of a collection of BBC-branded thematic channels in the African region from 1st September on MultiChoice’s DStv platform.
The new thematic channels - BBC Entertainment, BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle and CBeebies - will replace and build on the successes of BBC Food and BBC Prime to which Eben Greyling, CEO, MultiChoice Africa says, "MultiChoice welcomes the four BBC channels which we believe will contribute to our ongoing commitment of ensuring our customers receive high quality channels from a variety of different genres."
Darren Childs, MD, BBC Worldwide Channels says the initiative anchors on BBC’s long-term relationship with MultiChoice and is testimony to the BBC brand’s quality of content and commitment to Africa.
BBC Entertainment highlights the very best of comedy, drama and light entertainment programming from the BBC and other UK production houses. The channel launched first in Asia in October 2006, and most recently in Poland.
It debuts on 1st September on channel 120.
BBC Lifestyle is a unique channel offering inspiration for home, family and life. Favourite African series once on BBC Food will now broadcast in the Food strand. Other Lifestyle strands include Home & Design, Fashion & Style, Health, Parenting and Personal Development, designed to help develop the individual in all aspects of life. This will begin on 2nd September on channel 180. BBC Knowledge
highlights the best of the BBC’s award winning factual and non-fiction entertainment programming. The channel provides five key strands encompassing Culture, Science and Technology, People, History and Business to help update the individual on trends in the society.
CBeebies is a pre-school channel for 6-year olds and under. It offers quality pre-school programming designed to educate and entertain very young audiences, encouraging learning through play in a consistently safe environment.
CBeebies will start on 4th September on channel 306.
It debuts on 3rd September on channel 251.
