Enugu came alive with fun, good music and the best of Nigerian entertainment, recently when Zain and Television outfit, Nigezie held the South-East edition of the Tru Search Concert, a talent hunt programme created to recognize musical geniuses in Nigerian Universities.
For over seven hours, electrifying sounds from renowned Jamaican disc jockey, DJ Kenny, and local disc jockey, FS2 plus exhilarating performances from P-Square, Nigga Raw and other acts held the numerous students from tertiary institutions across the South-East region spellbound.
Zain/Nigezie Tru Search train is expected to make a stop in South-West, North-Central and Lagos regions in the coming weeks. It will crisscross major cities across the country including tertiary institutions in Ibadan and Jos and the activity features an extensive Town Storming exercise, a two-day auditioning period and a big music concert in campuses.
Wole Abu, Zain’s regional trade marketing officer, South-East Region, told the excited crowd that the Zain/Nigezie Tru Search Concert follows the Tru Search talent hunt, an initiative designed to discover the best musical talents in Nigerian Tertiary institutions and set them on them way to stardom.
According to him, Zain Tru Search is on the heels of the company’s youth package - Tru Offer, which allows pre-paid customers to enjoy amazingly low tariff from Monday through Friday and at weekends as well as free night calls, adding that the product is a funky, hybrid offer designed to fit the lifestyle, needs and aspirations of Nigerian youths.
Abu further noted that Zain is deeply committed to empowering Nigerian youths and will always act in sync with its corporate philosophy of helping Nigerians appreciate and have the benefit of a wonderful world by creating top-notch musical platforms that will help in identifying, grooming and assisting musical talents in Nigerian higher institutions.
The high point of the concert was the performance of chart shattering stars, P-Square, who were introduced on stage by popular comedian AY. They lived up to their top ratings, performing several of their hit songs including Do Me, Ifunanya, Busy Body, among others.
Nigga Raw also showed a lot of class and finesse. He had no problems connecting with the youthful crowd as the entire hall joined him in rapping and singing most of his songs. The Hip-Hop artiste had ample time to sample different rap styles, switching dialects and languages for a period of over 30 minutes. He climaxed his performance with a rendition of his song honouring the round leather game, soccer, also drumming up support for the Nigerian local soccer League.
Interestingly, DJ Kenny brought a lot of Jamaican flavour to his disc jockeying session. His performance threw up versatility, novelty and energy as he doubled as a DJ and MC. With his vast turntable, the petit Disc Jockey employed a digital call and response style, involving the audience while sampling an elaborate mix of Jamaican, Nigerian and International music flavours.
Currently, Zain is in partnership with cable outfit, MTV, churning out exciting musical initiatives like Advance Warning and bankrolling top-of-the-line musical awards including MTV Africa Music Awards (Mamas).
