MultiChoice Nigeria last Sunday launched a new musical entertainment show tagged: The Salt-N-Pepa Show on Channel O, a premium musical entertainment channel dedicated to African music on DStv.
The show, which is anchored by the duo of Salt-N-Pepa, Grammy Award winning rap sensations is all fun and entertainment, and the duo have revealed that they desperately want to re-capture the glamour and glory of the old days.
It would be recalled that the duo won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance (the first ever by female rappers) and three MTV Video Music Awards, and in 2002 at the height of their success, called it quits. No one could exactly say why they had to quit rap but rumours circulated that Salt had found God and that Pepa wanted to pursue an acting career.
It is no secret that Salt-N-Pepa has a lot of fans throughout Africa, and so the screening of the full season of ‘The Salt-N-Pepa Show’ on Channel O is a big accomplishment, and bound to have fans glued to their television sets each Sunday.
Determined to give their music career one more shot, The Salt-N-Pepa Show proves that getting back together is easier said than done, even for artistes who left it all behind when they were blazing hot.
According to Segun Fayose of corporate communication and Public Affairs Department of MultiChoice Nigeria, what makes the show so fascinating is that most of Salt-N-Pepa’s issues are still unresolved. Salt is still mad because she thinks she did all the work and was never appreciated. Pepa is still angry that Salt broke up the group and that she did it by calling her in the middle of a pedicure! (Can you beat that?)
He explained that the duo has not spoken to each other since they parted ways; “believe it or not, they have never spoken to each other about why they broke up in the first place.”
