Dana Group Supports Police Marathon 2009

Dana Group, a conglomerate with interests in diverse sectors of the Nigerian economy is teaming up with the Nigerian Police for the 2009 edition of the People Police Marathon organised by the Nigerian Police and Sublime Communications Limited to create awareness on fight against crime.
At an event to unveil sponsors of the 2009 Marathon, Mr. Peter Osamgbi, managing director of Sublime Communications announced Dana Motors Limited – Distributor of Kia range of vehicles in Nigeria, and Dana Airlines Limited, as official car and airline sponsor respectively.
Mike Okiro, Inspector General of Police, noted that Dana Group, through its automobile subsidiary Dana Motors, was one of the sponsors of the 2008 Marathon, and that the establishment of Dana Air and its involvement in this year’s event is evidence that the Group is indeed expanding. “Companies like that Dana Group have proven that Nigeria is safe for investment with its growth and diversification into other sectors of the economy; its foray into the aviation sector with Dana Air attests to this,” he said.
Okiro also explained that the People Police Marathon is not just for exercise but a race against crime. He said that last year’s race led to renewed vigour in the fight against crime and thanked all individuals and corporate bodies who have partnered with the Police to ensure that the 2009 Marathon is even more successful.
On Dana Group’s involvement in the 2009 Marathon, Mr. Ramesh Hathiramani, chairman of Dana Group said that as a stakeholder in the Nigerian economy, they will always support initiatives that impact on the country as a whole.
“The People Police Marathon is a laudable project by the Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro and the 2008 edition was a huge success. We have therefore increased our commitment towards this year’s event and we will continuously partner with the police to promote security in country.”
Dana Group is providing star prizes of Kia Rio and Picanto for the male and female winners of the race which comes up later this month. As official airline sponsor, Dana Air is also offering complementary air tickets for the marathon organizers and guests to aid logistics towards a successful marathon.
