The Ekiti State government has assured the people of the state that the erratic power supply being experienced in the state would become a thing of the past as soon as the installation of the 132 KVA transformers is completed.
Mr. Dapo Agbede, commissioner for Public Utilities in the state, made this known in Ado-Ekiti on while inspecting the installation of the transformer, adding that the state government would make available the sum of N30 million to the contractor handling the project.
According to him, the state government had earlier made available N30 million to the contractor which was spent on the installation of the transformer.
He also said that an improved and steady power supply would rapidly facilitate the socio-economic development of the state, noting that it would greatly boost the establishment and growth of cottage industries and small-scale industries.
It will be recalled that Mr. Nuhu Wya, minister of State for Power, had, during his recent visit to the state, given an assurance that the installation and commissioning of the 132 KVA transformer would be completed by December.
Addressing Mr. Lanre Komolafe, general manager of the Ekiti State Electricity Board, and Mr. Rasheed Adeyeni, contractor handling the installation, the commissioner said that public utilities were meant to make living meaningful for the people.
Corroborating the commissioner’s claim, both the General Manager and the contractor gave an assurance that the installation would be completed before December, provided the fund was made available.
While Komolafe said that the Federal Government was yet to fulfill its financial obligation as promised, Adeyeni said that the initial N30 million released by the state government had been expended on the installation, adding that over 70 per cent job had been done on the project.
Komolafe, who expressed satisfaction with the level of the work done so far, said that the 132 KVA was a Federal Government project, adding that Governor Segun Oni only intervened to safe it from total abandonment.
“We have been importing electricity from the neighbouring states like Ondo, Osun and Kogi all this while. But I am of the strong conviction that this would cease as soon as the installation is completed and erratic power supply would soon become a thing of the past in the state”, he said.
