For some children in the ancient town of Ikorodu, it is dreams come true as Newgate Medical Services Limited has given them the opportunity to train on the use of computer, as a way of giving back to the community which has played a pivotal role in their operations over the years.
Flagged off about 6 years ago, the training programme excited the kids who showed enthusiasm and were already displaying just acquired skills on the computer.
Sunday Anate, head of IT of the facility informed Nigeria CommunicationsWeek that 65 children chosen at random from families of patrons, staff and friends of the hospital have benefited from the training during the last set of sessions.
According to Oluwakemi Abiodun, head of Administration, Newgate Medical Services, the training was necessary considering that information technology (IT) is the way to go now, and children in Ikorodu should not be left behind in the global trend.
He said the just concluded training sessions lasted for one week during which the kids learnt computer basics, Windows applications, and how to play games on their PCs, among others.
He reiterated the hospital’s committment to community service, and stated that the knowledge acquired by the children would go a long way in making a brighter future for them.
