Mr. Akinsola Akinfemiwa, group managing director/Chief Executive Officer of Skye Bank Plc has been conferred with the University of Nigeria Alumni Association’s (UNAA), Life time Achievement Award.
The award, according to a statement by Skye Bank, is in recognition of his contributions to the growth of the institution and educational development in Nigeria.
Akinfemiwa graduated from UNN with second class upper division degree in Agricultural Economics in 1976.
The statement stated that the award was to recognise and honour him for identifying both with the school and the alumni association in their quest to make teaching and learning more effective by lending a helping hand.
“His passion for education is unparalled and has consistently championed this. Under his leadership, Skye Bank, which has as one its core values, education and youth development, has supported many institutions at various levels for development.”
“Some of the initiatives of the bank under his leadership include provision of lecture theatre for the University of Jos, support for Obafemi Awolowo University’s library project, renovation of Federal Government College, Birnin Kudu and financing of the construction of several secondary and tertiary schools.”
“Some of the schools include Rainbow College, Lagos, Green Spring International School, Macdonald Memorial International School, Port Harcourt, Stella Maries School, Abuja, Premiere Academy, Abuja, among others.”
The statement further noted that the bank recently made a donation to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife for the renovation of the university’s science building as well as doing same for the University of Jos as part of the bank’s commitment to the study of science in Nigeria.
