In a warm Sunday night show in Lagos, Kenneth Okolie, a 26-year old soccer enthusiast emerged the winner of the 2010 Mr. Nigeria male pageant.
It was no easy victory for the Marketing graduate of Valleyview University in Ghana, whose good looks, attitude and intelligence may have secured him the crown.
“I’m excited about the outcome of the competition. It’s actually what I dreamt of and it has come through. So I’m happy about it,” he said.
“I’ll represent Nigeria positively as well encourage the youth that whatever they set their minds to can be achieved. They should believe in themselves and their country too because Nigeria has a lot to offer,” Kenneth advised.
“The whole Mr. Nigeria experience has made me a better person, having given me a sense of responsibility and made me learn to be more tolerant, patient and hardworking. Now I represent the Nigerian youth. I’ll also ensure that the positive aspects about Nigeria are well projected to the world during my tenure,” he pledged.
For Guy Murray-Bruce, president of Silverbird Group, the reason for organising the Mr. Nigeria pageant was because “The men have been enjoying for so long, so this is a chance for the women to enjoy the men. We’re also looking for a mentor to take young Nigerian males to the next level. However, we wanted a representative for Nigeria in The Mr. World contest in South Korea, and there’s no better way than to put together a great show like this, have a winner who would be a good ambassador for Nigeria and project the positive things about the country to the rest of the world.”
He expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the contest, and encouraged men to get into the show, “First to get something to do, and to become role models for other young males who probably might have taken to mischief and needed redirection.”
Kenneth receives N1 million salary and a brand new car as prize for victory.
