Multichoice Honours CNN/Multichoice Africa Journalists Category Winners

Multichoice Nigeria recently held a reception in honour of Emmanuel Mayah and Pelu Awofeso, category winners at the CNN/Multichoice Africa Journalists Awards.
Emmanuel Mayah of the Daily Independent and Pelu Awofeso, a freelancer with 234Next Newspapers are two Nigerian journalists who did the nation proud in Kampala, Uganda at the CNN/Multichoice Africa Journalists Awards by emerging category winners.
Emmanuel Mayah’s story on “Europe by Desert: Tears of African Migrants,’ won him the general news award while “The Biafra Bunkers” earned Pelu Awofeso the tourism award.
Their stories were selected as the best in these categories of over 200 entries from 40 countries.
The reception held at the Terra Culture in Victoria Island had in attendance Multichoice staff, family and friends of the winners as well as gentlemen of the press.
In his speech, Joseph Hundah, managing director, Multichoice Nigeria noted that the Awards is aimed at reinforcing the importance of the journalists’ role in Africa and to recognize and develop journalistic talent across all disciplines.
 “Today, it continues to serve as a medium of recognizing courageous and diligent journalists who bring the world’s attention to the serious issues affecting the continent,” he said.
 “We are proud that this partnership between two of the worlds leading media brands-CNN and Multichoice has developed over the years to become the most recognized and prestigious journalistic awards in Africa,” Hunda said.
Also speaking at the reception, Ikechukwu Amechi, one of the editors at the awards enumerated to journalists present what makes an award winning story.
“In this era of competing interests, the only thing that would call attention to the story is the intro. It must be compelling and seductive to capture the audience’s attention.”
The ecstatic Pelu Awofeso who traveled to different parts of Nigeria to put his story together is ready to get back on the road to begin a seemingly award winning story.
He encouraged journalists to develop their writing skills, adding that “if we have good writers writing to promote Nigeria’s image, the country would have a positive image and would be a beautiful place for all to live in.”
