Galaxy Backbone has been selected as a partner by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for provision of connectivity to ICT Centres in educational institutions across the country.
The Project supports PTDF’s commitment to improving the quality of technology education in Nigeria.
According to the letter signed by Engr. Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, executive secretary of PTDF conveying the award of the contract, the Federal Executive Council approved the award of the contract to Galaxy Backbone Plc for the provision of VSAT facilities, Installation and Commissioning of ICT centres in 146 educational institutions across the country.
Yusuf Kazaure, Group head, Customer Operations & Services, Galaxy Backbone expressed the view that the project is in line with the Government’s desire to develop the quality of human capital requirement for a 21st century knowledge society.
On completion of the project, the network connectivity in the selected educational institutions across the country will enable students and teachers access the internet at a fast speed.
The PTDF ICT initiative will foster collaborative relationships between teachers and students in the development and sharing of content applications and other resources as well as stimulating capacity building among educational institutions in the country.
Kazaure also stated that, "This is the beginning of a new era for students and teachers in the selected educational institutions. They will enjoy internet services at a faster speed on a secured network. A very important aspect of the initiative is the ability to share information in a cost-effective manner and this will create opportunities for the educational institutions to share multimedia information, create and disseminate content in a collaborative manner”.
Galaxy Backbone is a public sector ICT infrastructure services company under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications Technology in Nigeria. The company has the mandate to build and operate a Nationwide Broadband network that provides IP-based Connectivity services to Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
