iROKOtv,  world’s largest online distributor of African entertainment, is in New York for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards  2012 with Uche Jombo, Nollywood superstar who is will be premiering her brand new movie, “My Life, My Damage”

Uche Jombo said that “I am very happy to be working with iROKOtv+ on the Nollywood film festival in New York as part of this year’s NEA’s. I’ll be showing my new movie, “My Life, My Damage”, and l am very much looking forward to seeing people’s reactions.”

iROKOtv, launched in 2012, streams Nollywood movies online, giving access to over 5,000 films on its platform www.irokotv.com. 

In July this year, a subscription service was launched, iROKOtv+, where for only $5 a month, viewers can access brand new Nollywood movies in HD.

iROKOtv+ is sponsoring the Awards’ Film Festival, which will showcase a selection of Nollywood’s newest movies on September 1, at Symphony Space, Sharp Theatre from noon

Jason  Njoku, founder and CEO of iROKOtv said: "The awesome talent coming out of Nigeria at the moment is seriously exciting and the list of nominees for the 2012 Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA’s) is a testament to that. The NEA's recognise the hard work, talent and prolific output made by recording and film artists from Nigeria and this is why iROKOtv+ is sponsoring the awards this year.”

Nollywood, the world’s second largest film industry in terms of output, produces more than 2,000 films each year [roughly 40 per week].

The movie industry is one of Nigeria’s most popular and lucrative exports, generating over $590m per year for the country and employs over 200,000 people, with the cost of production averaging $40,000 per movie.

Celebrating the outstanding creative output from Nigerian movie, music and comedy stars, this year is set to be the biggest yet for the NEA’s, with music, fashion, movies on show, all leading to the prestigious awards ceremony on Sunday 2 September 2012 at the Skirball Centre for Performing Arts.

Nollywood superstars such as iROKOtv Ambassador, Funke Akindele,  and Van Vicker will be amongst the many artists who are bringing Nigerian entertainment to the African Diaspora.
