Mr. George Uriesi, managing director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said that the level of work done at the Benin Airport was commendable and that the project was ready for commissioning.
Yakubu Dati general manager, Corporate Communications (FAAN), said the MD made the observation while inspecting the level of work done at the airport on during the weekend, in company of FAAN directors and other senior officials.
The inspection tour also took the team to three other airports namely Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and the Port Harcourt International Airport.
Uriesi who addressed the contractors of the different projects on site, noted that ongoing remodelling project was long overdue, and called on airport users to bear with the Authority concerning the inconveniences they had to go through during the project execution, since such hassles normally accompany repairs of an existing facility while operations continue.
He inspected the level of work done at each of the four airports and called on all the entire contractors to see themselves as stakeholders in the aviation industry by giving the best service they could render, so that Nigerian airports would become a true hub in the West African sub-region.
He said that the Federal Government of Nigeria was concerned with the welfare of the travelling public, and was doing all it could to raise the standard of operations to international standard through the transformation agenda which Princess Stella Oduah , minister of Aviation is championing to change the landscape of Nigerian airports within the next few months.
Oduah has promised Nigerians that the second phase of the airport remodelling project involving the remaining airports in the country would commence before June this year, when work on the first phase would have been completed.
The FAAN helmsman also noted that work on the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu had reached advanced stage and commended the contractors for a job well done.
