Malam Habib Abdullahi, managing director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has reiterated the commitment of the authority to harness the huge potentials and further improve the patronage of Delta Ports.
He made the assertion at the familiarization and inspection tour of major infrastructural developments that are ongoing at the port.
Capt. Iheanacho Ebubeogu, general manager, Public Affairs (NPA) quoted the MD saying that Delta Port is a port of the future and centre of attraction.
According to the Abdullahi, the ongoing developments at the port are part of the efforts of management to reposition the port adequately in order to accommodate the expected increase in operational activities that will result from the planned dredging of Escravos channel, channel marking, wreck removal campaign, acquisition of new crafts and rehabilitation of the Escravos moles.
While commending the cooperation and commitment of the management of Delta Ports for the great work, the managing director said that among other things being done by the Management to rebuild the port, a channel management company is being deliberated to assist in dredging, removal of wrecks and maintenance of the channel.
He expressed confidence that the initiatives will attract more investors and terminal operators to the port.
Mr. Obumneme Onuenyenwa, port manager, Delta Ports, while conducting the managing director round some of the ongoing projects at the Old warri Port expressed gratitude for Management’s support towards the activities of Warri Port.
In his presentation during a brief reception organized for the Managing Director and his entourage at the Boardroom of the ports, the Port Manage underscored the huge revenue potentials of the port adding that only 40% of the entire port land has been developed.
He called on Management to address the challenge of encroachment of port land in order to realize the full potentials of the port and thereby increase revenue generation.
Some ongoing developments in the port include the perimeter fencing of the port, the rehabilitation of the quay walls by Julius Berger and China Harbor Engineering Company among others.
