Huawei, a leading global information and communication technology (ICT) solutions provider, said over 5000 Nigerian IT engineers have benefited from its facilities since the establishment of its training centre.

Mr. Peng Sung, president, Huawei West Africa, said that Company, since establishment of the in centre in Abuja in 2004 has shown 14 years of consolidation of IT development in the Nigeria.

He made the remark at the unveiling of an ICT skills acquisition programme meant for Nigerian girls, adding that Huawei has since received excellent response from the market and aims to expand its investment in the coming years.

According to Sung, Huawei is determined to set up strategic alliance with local powerful partners and to secure a win-win business partnership. “We believe that innovative solutions and dedicated innovations on the customers’ need will significantly bring true values to the customers and that is why we are not relenting,” he said.

Huawei Nigeria currently employs over 1600 people while over 65% of them are locally recruited. The Company also boosted of creating over 6000 job opportunities for the business partners.

Speaking on the Company’s products and services, Mr. Hover Gao, vice president, Huawei West Africa, said that, in line with the industry’s vision of all IP network and fixed mobile convergence (FMC) environment, Huawei offers one of the broadcast end-to-end product portfolios and solutions including, wireless, core network, software solutions and terminals (smartphones, dongles and home terminals).

He added explained that as more operators entrust solution providers to manage their networks, Huawei has established a regional network operators centre (RNOC) in Lagos. “This NOC is capable of maintaining all networks managed by Huawei Africa. This will create lots of job opportunities Nigerians and develop large number of telecom experts”.

He said that, Huawei is determined to bring the digital divide in the country through education and offering an ICT scholarship, for instance, in the University of Lagos, sine 2002 to support the talented in ICT related fields.
