The ICT industry in Nigeria is deeply saddened by the passing of Bankole Olubamise, one of its most promising young men.
Olubamise who died Sunday, August 17, was very active in ICT4D consulting and advocacy as well as civil society engagement as executive director/CEO of Development Information Network (DevNet).
cyberschuulnews.com, a leading ICT resource broke the news yesterday adding that eulogies have continued to pour ceaselessly for Olubamise who was full of remarkable ideas and boundless energy, and will be remembered for his enormous contributions to ICT policy making in Nigeria.
Titi Omo-Ettu, telecom engineer, in pains, said: 'There goes another diminishing of our future. Bydway, whose interest does death serve? And how does it make its choices? Death, you sting, but we fear not thee. Shame to you death! Bankole did his best. He will rest in The Lord'.
Also commenting, Chris Uwaje, ICT industry Icon and immediate past president , ISPON, said in disbelief: 'This can not be true! Bankole was a fine + Passionate IT intellectual . Above, he was very humble. I learnt a lot discussing + networking with him. He will surely rest in perfect peace.'
Olubamise was the author of seven books and numerous contributions to Publications on ICT, Human Rights, Foreign Investment, Environment and Trade Policy, Democracy and Development.
He led Nigeria’s Civil Society Delegation to the 2005 World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) and facilitated and produced an ICT television programme on developing the information society and the knowledge economy in Nigeria “i-Society” for several years on national television.
Olubamise will be buried on aturday, August 23, at Cemetery by Lugbe Divisional Police Station / Barracks, Opposite Guardian Angels Catholic Chapel, Abuja.
