The Quarterly NIRA Accredited Registrars’ Forum held on Friday, 4th of December 2015 with many Registrars attending either physically at the NiRA Office Complex or participating online. We discussed the successes recorded by .ng in 2015, based on the identified strategic drivers that are pivotal to our success.

We discussed the technological innovations, business strategies and operational excellence that are NiRA’s priorities. We also outlined the 2016 strategies, including our plan to embark on an extensive online campaign to advocate and promote the adoption of .ng.

It was an engaging experience, with those in attendance making very useful contributions. We plan to harmonize all these ideas for the growth of the .ng brand and the DNS Industry in Nigeria.

We were all reminded that .ng is the Nigerian Online identity and we must all work hard to positively project it. To all Registrars, Thank you for taking the time out, and for your contributions.

From the 28th of November to the 4th of December 2015, yours truly chaired the AFRINIC-23 meeting which held at Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo.

It was an enriching and rewarding experience. There were Number Resources Management trainings, workshop activities and plenary sessions.

The relationship between Domain name Management and Number Resources Management cannot be overemphasized. I count myself very lucky to be contributing to the Names strategy at the National level, and the Numbers strategy at the Continental level. It is a very rewarding experience.

Yesterday (Wednesday), I declared open the Computer Village Expo 2015 (CVE 2015) organized by Technology Times, Nigeria’s leading Technology news platform.

The CVE ’15 brought together stakeholders, industry players, sector leaders and investors to explore the opportunities, identify the challenges andset an agenda for the way forward for the Computer Village, Otigba, Lagos Nigeria’s largest technology market.

This maiden edition presents an opportunity to promote the .ng brand to and at the biggest technology market in West Africa and provides opportunities for exhibitors to showcase innovative consumer and business technologies.

NIRA and its Accredited Registrars are participating at the Expo, showcasing the .ng brand.

Earlier in the month, we continued with our partnership program, working with our Accredited Registrars for the free entrepreneurial training on Web Development using Content Management System (CMS).

It was also an interesting time for those youths who participated. NiRA Academy equally conducted a training to enhance the IT skills of some members of the public as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility.

I have no doubt that NiRA is empowering youths, creating wealth and building a prominent space for our registry in the future of Nigeria.

If you are surrounded by youths, please encourage them to improve on their IT skills, which would definitely create job opportunities and ultimately develop our economy. Let us continue to think locally, while acting globally.

Sunday Folayan is NiRA President
