For those who are yet to see the revolution on Big Brother Africa 4, they need to look again! The reality show gets more interesting by the hour as viewers see more intrigues and twists added to the game.
Last week, “Biggie” introduced a new twist, which changed the face of the game. The housemates were paired up and played as teams of two, meaning that each team played as if they were one housemate. If one member of the team was nominated, so was the other. If one member of the team was saved by the head of house, so was the other. If one member of the team was evicted, so was the other. The only place the housemates did not operate as one was in the Diary Room, while their Money Pots also remained separate.
This twist which put each housemate’s survival at the hands of another housemate in this manner, has never been seen on Big Brother Africa show; and that quite elicited a lot of applause from viewers who saw alliances and events in the house assume a whole new form.
However, the penultimate eviction show saw Erastus, Rene and Zambia ’s Paloma evicted from the house after gaining the fewest votes from Africa. Erastus said he didn’t think the Twin Twist worked against him and Edward, and declared he wouldn’t have played the game any differently if he hadn’t been in the house with his brother.
The show also delivered all the drama and excitement the continent could ask for as politics, new alliances and soccer dominated the housemates’ time.
Nkenna surprised viewers when she said she wanted to leave the house, claiming she was sad, homesick and tired of the scheming and the game. Itai tried to convince her that it was part of the game and that she needed to be strong – he had a vested interest in keeping her in the house as he feared that if she had left, he may have had to follow as her “Comrade in Arms.”
The nominations were particularly tough for the housemates because of the new alliances - a nomination for one housemate was effectively a vote against their partner too. But at the end of the day, Yacob & Hannington and Elizabeth & Kevin emerged as the weakest links, after the latter pair were put in line of fire to save Quinn & Kristal, by the head of household.
Viewers also saw the housemates focus on their soccer skills. For 3 days, whenever Big Brother blew the whistle, all housemates dropped to the ground as if mortally injured and appealed in the most dramatic way for a penalty until Biggie sounded another signal. They also each had to perfect a “signature trick” with a soccer ball.
The housemates’ creative skills were tested as they had to redesign and build a ‘Revolution World Cup’ and compose an anthem, before being tasked with playing blindfolded football. They divided into teams of four - two pairs per team and spent time discovering how difficult it was to play soccer without being able to see the ball. They also had a new face in the house as Eustas, a professional musician, joined them to show them how to play the “Zazu,” a plastic horn-like wind instrument that lets out a sound when blown – similar to a vuvuzela.
However, the female housemates reminisced about the days when they lived separately from the males, and then realized they were outnumbered by the guys. It well seemed the “Girl power Alliance” was about to be rekindled but only time would tell.
Nkenna already had plans for life after Big Brother house - to establish a church charity and an NGO to encourage people to visit the sick in hospital, and to get some Nollywood film roles.
