The Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (Acamb) will hold its 2009 annual conference and retreat tagged “optimizing marketing communications in a global recession” on Friday, 25th September in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria (Cbn), the special guest of honour and lead speaker at the event will deliver a paper on “Risk Management as the Panacea for Preventing Systemic Image Crisis”.
The retreat, an annual event of Acamb, is in furtherance of the aspiration of the association to build the capacity of corporate communications and allied professionals with strategies that would enhance their performance. Apart from Acamb members, public relations professionals from other sectors of the national economy would also grace this year’s retreat.
Speakers at the retreat include, Bismarck Rewane, managing director, Financial Derivatives Limited who will speak on “Global Financial Meltdown: Exit Strategies for Nigerian Banks”;  Cornelius Pratt, professor of strategy and organizational communication, Temple University Philadelphia U.S.A, will speak on “Ensuring the Impact of Marketing Communications in an Economic Downturn” and  Austin Ufomba, head, brand marketing communications, First City Monument Bank (FCMB), will also speak on the topic “Marketing Communications Dynamics in Global Recession”.
The special media consultative interaction will be chaired by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, member, Federal House of Representative and Chairperson, House Committee on Nigerians in Diaspora while Gbenga Adefaye, president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors will present a paper on “Journalism and Nation Building in the face of recession: The Nigerian Experience”.
The Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks is the umbrella body for all image managers in the Nigerian banking industry. The Association aims to improve the working relationship between banks, the government and the public. It aims to build trust and confidence between all parties thus promoting a conducive atmosphere for businesses to thrive.
In the recent past, the association had through the initiative created a platform for the dissemination of information on banks’ services, the establishment of feedback channels for customers as well as the evolution of other forward looking strategies that would smoothen relationship between financial institutions and the general public.
The Association also projects the image of the banking industry locally and internationally, advocates for the return of standard banking code of ethics such as honesty, transparency, trust, reliability and security, enhances member’s career     performance and provides a viable forum where operators can discuss matters of common interest and proffer solutions.
