It is the turn of Africa’s fashion kings to take the centre stage on CNN International’s inspirational signature program, African Voices, which is sponsored by grand masters of data, Globacom.
Globacom said in a press statement that the next edition of the program, airing this weekend, would be captivating as it would give viewers a peep into the activities of new trendsetters in the continent’s fashion milieu. The industry is said to be worth over $31billion.
This next edition of the program will showcase how African fashion is making waves on the runways of London, Paris, New York, Milan and other trendsetting cities of Europe and the Americas. Viewers will see how Africa’s fashion styles are now attracting global audiences and generating rave reviews across continents.
The 30-minute magazine programme is broadcast on CNN International at 10.30 a.m. on Fridays. It is repeated at 2.30 p.m. on Saturdays and at 12.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Sundays.
Viewers can also watch the show on Mondays at 11:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays at 5.30 a.m.
The statement revealed that those to be featured in the programme are Jenke Ahmed Tailly, Karim Tassi and Katherine-Mary Pichulik.
Beginning with a fashion icon out of Ivory Coast, the show will head for Morocco where a fashion designer is imprinting his city's rich culture on crafty clothing, while also being inspired by international elements, CNN disclosed.
Jenke Ahmed Tailly, the Ivorian who is hoping to shake up the industry with his African heritage, is regarded as one of the most influential stylists in the industry. He is a fashion editor, stylist, and consultant and works with heavyweights such as pop icons Beyonce and Kanye West, as well as reality TV star, Kim Kardashian.
Karim Tassi is the Moroccan fashion designer reputed for his rich fusion of indigenous fashion culture and international motif. He is the second guest on the programme. African Voices depicts his style as playing on the diversity and richness of contrasts and the mixing of cultures.
A third guest, Katherine-Mary Pichulik, is a highly creative South African entrepreneur and jewellery designer. She says, “the inspiration for my work comes from the alchemy of transforming everyday materials through craft, touch and design, and elevating them into something precious and covetable”.
