Afrimobile Limited, A UK-based Nigerian telecom provider, has said that it was targeting nearly 45 million subscribers from members of the ethnic communities including Nigerians resident in the UK.
Afrimobile is a new virtual network operator which seeks to provide mobile telephone services, including electronic money transfer and digital e-wallet services to subscribers.
Mr Kayode Ehindero, chief executive officer of Afrimobile, who said this at a private launch of the product at the Nigerian High Commission in London, also put the current value of the company at two million pounds.
"Afrimobile provides a product offering to cater specifically for the ethnic African community in the UK," Ehindero said.
He said it was sad that in spite of the large population of Africans, including nearly three million Nigerians resident in the UK, there was no African-owned telecom provider willing to render services specifically targeted at the community.
He assured prospective subscribers that his company would provide excellent services to cover countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Somalia.
In his speech, Dr Dalhatu Tafida, Nigeria's High Commissioner to the UK commended the management of Afrimobile for their foresight and entrepreneurship they brought into the UK telecom sector.
"Your skills and expertise as demonstrated with this telecom project is another indication that we as Nigerians are never short of quality and good ideas.
"This shows that as Nigerians in Diaspora; you are thinking very much ahead of others and the time to invest is now," he said.
He advised the company to put service above making so much profit adding: "you must ensure integrity and good service delivery."
He further advised the company to expand its subscriber base in order to form a strong foundation for sustainability and success.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of an Afrimobile phone and sim cards to Tafida and Heads of Section of the mission.
