Benue State Government plans to introduce the teaching of Information and Communications Technology in the school curriculum. Mr. Felix Ayoo, special adviser to the Governor on tertiary Institution who disclosed this at the just concluded stakeholders’ forum on education in Abuja, said that a high level agreement has been reached with some of the ICT power houses such as Microsoft and Cisco for the establishment of a software Institute in all the tertiary institutions in the state.
According to him government will do her best to promote science and technology as well as software engineering in schools.
Ayoo said the Initiative is to impart information technology skills into the people and that a high level of awareness has been carried among students and specific areas earmark for building of computer rooms with internet facilities.
He said this has become necessary in view of mass appeal for ICT in homes and workplaces which enhances e-learning and e-library.
The students he said will be trained in all computer programme and the use of internet so that they will better equipped to be employed as well as compete with their colleagues in other states of the federation and the world. He said a certificate will be issued to each student on completion of the training, as courses to be offered includes IT management, computer appreciation, Java, oracle and IT operation management will be priority areas.
He said the Government plans to maintain the standard of education in the state by employing qualified IT teachers, as well as providing the needed text books for effective learning.
