Dr Christopher Anyanwu, director-general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), has solicited the continued support of the British Department For International Development (DFID) in the reform and privatization programme of the Federal Government.
He made the disclosure during the send forth party in honour of Mrs. Wendy Brennen held at the privatization agency in Abuja.
Anyanwu expressed gratitude to the DFID for its invaluable support to Nigeria especially the BPE. The support he said has contributed largely to the tremendous achievements the BPE recorded over the years in actualizing the economic reform and privatization programme of the Federal Government.
According to him, DFID provided senior legal support on privatization related governance issues through which the BPE secured the services of Legal Advisory Partnership (LAP). This made it possible for the BPE to get sound legal opinions and greatly facilitated the production of the privatization procedures manual.
He said “DFID also assisted in funding the core team members. Without this support, the Bureau would have found it hard to secure the quality service of in-house advisers essential to the implementation of the reform and privatization agenda and the transfer of skill to other members of staff.
Anyanwu commended Brennen for coordinating the DFID support programme with admirable humility and understanding.
It would be recalled that British Department for International Development (DFID) has provided the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) with financial support worth about five million pounds, for the reform and privatization program.
