Channels TV, Deutch Welle Ink Content Sharing Arrangement

Channels Television and a  German-based international  Television Station, Deutch Welle (DW) on Friday signed an agreement to facilitate and enhance  content sharing and transmission across  Africa and Europe.

This development  is driven by the need to further advance the strengths and opportunities inherent in both Africa and Europe as well as to strengthen the existing relationship between the duo.

According to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Channels Television, Mr John Momoh, the move was another way to reinforce the "best" that they had always delivered to their audience and in  particular, to project the potentials of Nigeria and  Africa to the world.

"We are very happy to get into this strategic allowance with one of the biggest Media organisations in Europe and the World. As you know, Channels Television is a news station that is acknowledged as the most reliable source of news in Nigeria and indeed Africa from within the continent.

“We take very seriously, our responsibility to tell Nigerian and African stories from our perspective as Nigerians. We are also aware that virtually all continents on earth have their own news media to tell their stories, not leaving the responsibility to people from other parts of the world to do so for them. Hence, Channels Television will take the lead in covering Nigeria and rest of the  African continent to share these stories with Deutsche Welle."

Also speaking at the joint  Press Conference organised  in Channels Television building, Lagos, the Director General of Deutsche Welle, Peter Limbourg said that the  collaboration would in effect, see Africa and Nigeria being covered from all sides, including the good and not just the one side picture that has always been the case.

"We know Africa has potential, this is what  we intend  to showcase to the world  and not just the bad side that has always been given prominence”, he said.

Limbourg added that in view  of the partnership, a programme titled "Africa on the move" had already been introduced to further strengthen the effort ,while also in the very nearest time, African and Nigerians would be able to access live reports from the German stock market.

"By working with DW, Channels Television can provide its target audience of Nigerian business and opinion leaders a direct link to business and economic news coming from Europe .Channels Television will also soon begin broadcasting live report from German stock Market. With the introduction of regionalised programming like ‘Africa on the move’, DW will increase its foothold in the African Media Landscape" said Limbourg.
