Chibuokem Onyekwelu, a distinguished Mobile Product Engineer, has been honoured with the “Outstanding Mobile Engineer” award at the 2024 Africa Beacon of ICT (BoICT) Awards.
The prestigious ceremony held this May 25th at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, celebrated innovation and excellence across Africa’s ICT landscape and recognised individuals and organisations that have made remarkable contributions to the sector’s advancement.
Chibuokem, who is currently a Senior Mobile Engineer at Female Invest, was recognised for his exceptional expertise in development, deployment and release management for mobile applications. His technical prowess and leadership have significantly impacted and contributed to the advancement of the sector.
Chibuokem’s most significant achievement is his contributions to the success of Female Invest, leading the development of the mobile application and overseeing its release, performance monitoring, and debugging.
While presenting the award, Mr. Kenneth Nwogbo, Editor-in-Chief of Nigeria Communications Week, commended Chibuokem’s outstanding work and praised his contribution as a Senior Engineer to the industry.
Chibuokem expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the award, his colleagues, friends, family, and his network. He also extensively appreciated his parents, whose impact and support have been very instrumental in helping him to be where he is today.
Beyond his role as a Product Engineer, Chibuokem actively contributes to the community by mentoring on ADPList, an online global community of mentors. He also volunteers for Tech4Dev by mentoring and providing technical support.
The BoICT Awards, organised annually by Communication Week Media Limited, stands as one of the most respected recognitions in Africa's ICT industry. It aims to stimulate healthy competition and foster innovation among technology leaders and stakeholders across the continent.
The event drew attendance from prominent figures in the technology ecosystem, including government officials, corporate executives, and technology enthusiasts, all gathered to celebrate the achievements of outstanding individuals and organisations driving the future of ICT in Africa.
