The Chartered Institute of Bankers Nigeria (CIBN) has concluded plans to create a framework for financing energy infrastructure in the country.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos as a prelude to its Bankers’ Nite which will hold on the 18th of July, Bayo Olugbemi, CIBN Chairman, Lagos Chapter said the aim of the event is to lay ground works for bankers to share experience and bring to the fore current trends and search for more sustainable energy.

He said the event will identify and address the real problems that Nigeria is facing in the quest to develop her energy sector. “It is for us to consciously address this challenge, to elicit colleagues and practitioners in industry and banks and to take Nigerians out of the woods of darkness.”

The Lagos Bankers’ Nite is an annual event organized by the Lagos Branch of the Institute in conjunction with the banking community in Lagos.

Olugbemi noted that this year event provides a unique opportunity for the exchange of ideas on contemporary economic, banking, and other financial issues. It is also an avenue for bankers to interact with one another and network with the Nigerian Business Community.

According to him, banks are being mobilized to do a lot on funding energy infrastructure and subject experts from Standard Bank, South Africa would educate banks on the issue of appropriate funding.

Mojisola Bakare Asieru, chairperson organizing committee said the experts would give another perspective of how it is being done and how it has being done in other African countries, in other for banks to use it as a model in carrying out the project.
