Copyright Society of Nigeria (Coson) has settled the multi-million naira royalty dispute with Cool FM.
The issues were resolved at a meeting held at the Coson headquarters in Opebi, Lagos. After the meeting which lasted several hours, both teams resolved the issues of payment of music copyright royalties for the musical works and sound recordings broadcast by the Cool FM stations across the country.
Both parties also agreed to withdraw the court action instituted against Cool FM by Coson sometimes in June.
Amin Moussalli, chairman of Steam Broadcasting and Communications Limited lead the Cool FM team while Chief Tony Okoroji, Coson chairman led the Coson team.
Moussalli, expressing delight at the outcome of the meeting said that as a law abiding corporation, Cool FM is leveraging on the success of the outcome between its sister broadcast station, Wazobia FM and Coson.
He commended the efforts of Coson while stating that his organization will gladly continue to respect the rights of musicians and give hope to up and coming music acts in every way possible.
Also present at the meeting were Ms Evita Moussalli, Steam Broadcasting and Communications Limited, COO, Idowu Adebayo, director of Finance, and Onimisi Adaba, Operations manager.
It would be recalled that a similar agreement had been reached in July 2012 with Globe Broadcasting and Communications Limited, owners of Wazobia FM; a sister company to Steam Broadcasting and Communications Ltd.
