Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has signed a reciprocal agreement with the Performing Right Society (PRS), London, to ensure collection of royalties for use of Nigerian music in the United Kingdom.

Chibueze Okereke, COSON head of Communications, Media and Strategy, in a statement, said the agreement formalised the mandate given to COSON to manage in Nigeria the extensive repertoire of world music controlled by the performing society.

According to Okereke, the London based society will also ensure the collection of royalties on behalf of COSON and its members for the use of any Nigerian music.

It said the agreement, which was recently signed between the societies, was negotiated over a two year period.

The statement thanked Tony Okoroji, the COSON chairman for his efforts at ensuring the signing of the agreement with respect to collective management of copyright in Nigeria.

It said COSON had also signed reciprocal representation agreements with several other Collective Management Organisations in different parts of the world.
