Operators in the courier and express parcel sub sector of the economy said they needed to invest not less than #70 billion in the nation's postal service industry, to enable them build Airside Warehouses in all airports across the country.
The operators under the umbrella of Association of Nigeria Courier Operators (Anco), also flayed Nipost’s monopoly of the industry and urged the Federal Government to act fast concerning the postal commission, as it will enhance investment in the postal industry.
Toyin Olufade, Anco president, who spoke to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek in an exclusive interview said the industry needs #70 billion to build Airside warehouses and cannot do it alone on their own.
According to Olufade, establishment of the postal commission in the industry which today is regulated by the Courier Regulatory Department arm of Nipost will help government to improve postal services, eliminate the financial burden of providing subsidy to Nipost, and also enhance investment in the industry.
However, he noted that government's desire towards finding a new business model for the provision of postal services to the citizens was in line with the global trend in postal services.
He, also said that the pricing for courier should be appropriate, as other courier operators are not competing with Nipost.
