CRD Moves to Address Multiple Taxation In Courier Industry

Courier Regulatory Department (CRD) of the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST) has entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Lagos State Ministry of transportation in a bid to harmonize the transport related levies in the industry.

Operators have consistently been lamenting duplication of levies in the state. 

It was learnt that Lagos State Government have come out with what is called carriage permit for all licensed operators dispatch drivers /riders.

Dr. Ishaya Diwa, general manager, Courier Regulatory Department (CRD) made the remarks while addressing newsmen in Lagos at the weekend, after they shutdown three alleged unlicensed operators in different areas of State.

In his words during the briefing "Just recently we have entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lagos State transport Ministry in a bid to also  sanitize the industry, in that case Lagos state has come out with a Carriage Permit for drivers and dispatch riders", he said.

In that line, he disclosed that all drivers that operate corporate and commercial vehicles will have to carry the badge and a sticker,

"In line with that we also have our stickers that would be affix on all vehicles for licensed courier companies, therefore any  vehicle that does not carry that sticker is also regarded as unlicensed one and would be apprehended or arrested by the Lagos ministry of Transport So those are some of the things we are doing to make sure we sanitize the courier industry,” he said.

The GM of Courier Regulatory department (CRD) also decried the increase in number of unlicensed courier/delivery companies in the country.

Dr. Diwa said this while speaking on the shutdown of three alleged unlicensed operators in different areas of Lagos state.

He said the three firms were sealed after series of investigations on their activities. He listed the three courier companies as Time Code Services, On-Time Express and Integrated Dispatch Express.
