The 18th edition of the U.S Commercial Service Nigeria, CTO exhibition and seminars will hold from the 12th - 16th of May, 2008 at the MUSON Center, Lagos. The theme of this year’s event is ‘A World without Borders’ which is all about the free flow of information among countries. It will focus on telemedicine, distance learning and on-line transactions, with emphasis on the 3G technology. Other areas which will be looked into are cyber-crime, e-governance, e-ticketing, e-banking and electronic tracking systems. The CTO exhibitions are market for developing tools of the U.S Commercial Service in Nigeria where local entrepreneurs representing U.S manufacturers and distributors of computers, telecommunications and office equipment showcase the best of U.S technology, equipment and services available in Nigeria. The exhibitions are also targeted at introducing new technologies and helping them gain some footing in the Nigerian market. This year’s seminars will feature local and international authorities in electronic transactions and infrastructure development and about 5, 000 companies are expected to be present. According to Anayo Agu, asenior commercial specialist of the U.S Commercial Service Nigeria, ‘the CTO is not about the government of Nigeria and government of the United States. It’s about how the private sector can help unleash entrepreneurship in Nigeria – how the U.S private sector and the Nigerian private sector can work together to address the needs that we have here’.
