Customs to Implement Enhanced e-Clearance Structure

Search for a structure for improved revenue generation involving due electronic clearance procedure, the Nigeria Customs Service meditates on introducing a-single window platform that will facilitate authorization dealings for both imported and exported goods. Nigerian CommunicationsWeek gathered that the idea was followed by admirations and unalloyed support, drummed by the management of the Service, to Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi Inde, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), who penultimate week emerged, for the second time, the vice-chairman, West and Central African of the World Customs Organization (WCO). Alhaji Dikko had told newsmen, at the closing ceremony of the 17th conference of WCO in Cotonou, Benin Republic that the single window procedure, which formed the major focus of the conference, would be implemented electronically. Dikko disclosed that the system, which would ensure that all documents were processed electronically through one platform, would save time and cost. According to him, all Nigeria needed at the moment was time to study the single window procedure to avoid problems that might occur in the future. “You can see each and every country’s presentation came with a problem, so in Nigeria; we will like to study it very well to understand how the single window works in other countries. “So we are taking our time. We are not yet late and soon we are going to have our own and I am sure is going to work perfectly,” he said. The CGC said that the service would do all within its powers to minimise the problems of clearance procedure. Meanwhile, the management of the Service has identifies with the Comptroller for securing the vice-chairman’s seat of the WCO, for the second time. In a statement, they assured Dikko of continued support, as he continues, “…to work towards global practices in the Nigeria Customs Service and the region. We pledge our continued loyalty and dedication to the course of the transformation and nation building. “The congratulatory message further eulogized Dikko’s “Regional leadership style which has more than ever connected various customs administration within West and Central Africa. “Hosting of the historic policy Commission meeting of WCo and provision of the Regional Staff College in Gwagwalada, to mention a few, earned you this re-election. Dikko, since assumption of office has been reaping accolades for his leadership through the increased revenue profile of the Service.
