Diamond Bank has taken a giant leap towards promoting a society less dependent on cash with the launch of the Diamond Bank Visa credit card available to its existing customers and people who do not currently have a Diamond Bank account.
Though this is not the first international credit card to be launched in Nigeria, the Diamond Bank card prides itself among its equal with its unique Naira denominated feature. This allows the use of the card in any country in the world, or on the internet to purchase from foreign websites, and payment of amount owed to the bank in Naira at the end of the month.
With this, the inconvenience of either sourcing dollars in cash, or depleting valuable dollar balances in domiciliary accounts is unnecessary as the need to repay any foreign transactions in US dollars and local transactions in Naira at the end of each month has been done away with.
The Diamond Bank Visa credit card is not reserved for a selected few. The bank realised that many self-employed people in Nigeria could benefit greatly from having a credit card, particularly if they travel overseas to source products. In recognising this need, the bank has developed clear and simple qualification criteria for Nigerians who do not necessarily earn a salary, but are running a viable business.
If used effectively, a credit card is in fact the cheapest way for a person to transact.
A transaction at a point of sale (pos) using credit cards attracts up to 45 days interest-free credit on that purchase. This means no interest will be charged on purchases, as long as outstanding credit card balance is paid in full when the monthly repayment date comes around.
The Diamond Bank Visa credit card is positioned to bring credit cards to the Nigerian public like never before.
