Diamond Platnumz, Others, Take centre Stage on Glo-Sponsored African Voices

Naseeb Abdul Juma , Tanzania’s music maestro who is better known as Diamond Platnumz, is one of the guest stars this weekend, on CNN African Voices , a 30-minute magazine programme sponsored by telecoms giant, Globacom.

This comes as the ace musician continues to make waves in his home country, and on the continent having just given a sterling performance at the 2016 Glo-CAF Awards held in Abuja in January and the opening ceremony of the on-going AFCON in Gabon.

Naseeb Abdul Juma who is best known for his song, "Number One", is reputed to be the most decorated Tanzanian artiste at the moment.

In 2014, Diamond Platnumz won a record seven awards, including Best Male Writer, Best Male Artiste, Best Song Writer and Best Male Entertainer of the Year. He also won the Best Live Act at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards as well as Artiste of the Year and Best Male Artiste, East Africa, at the 2015 African Muzik Magazine Awards.

Two other artistes will join Diamond Platnumz in this week’s edition of African Voices. They are Mao Sidibe of Senegal and Phy Mwihaki Ng'etich of Kenya.

Phy is based in Nairobi Kenya. He began his singing career at a tender age and at the age of only eight, she won the overall number one position at the Kenya Music Festival for the solo classical piece in her age category.

In 2011, Phy joined a group of friends to form Phy and The Band whose music was heavily influenced by the Afro/Urban genre.  In 2014, she decided to create her own musical journey. Her musical taste is a different array of genres and sub-genres with Mali music, India arie, Fena gitu as some of her inspirations in creating what many could only describe as “PHY-music”.

Mao Sidibé,  on his part, started the dancehall crew, “BBC Sound System“ in Dakar Senegal and in 2012, he opened his own music and video production company, Mao Production.  He was nominated by France national radio RFI for their annual African Music awards Prix Découvertes 2015.  He is reputed for his mix of reggae, pop and dancehall beat fused with Senegalese traditional drums and instruments.

Sponsor of the programme, Nigeria’s King of Data, Globacom, urged viewers to tune in to African Voices on CNN International at 10:30a.m. and 4.30p.m. on Friday to watch the highly entertaining programme.

There will be repeats at 4.30 p.m. on Saturday, and at 12.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Sunday. There are further repeats at 11.30 a.m. on Monday and 5.30 a.m. on Tuesday
