DKT Nigeria has launched a pregnancy-prevention-education radio campaign, in response to varying requests for a radio programme by its Eastern followers on social media platforms.
This laser-focused family planning radio campaigns have a wide-reaching spread to the Eastern and Southern regions of Nigeria covering a total of 10 states ranging from Abia to Akwa-Ibom.
DKT Nigeria’s media and communication tentacles reached thousands of people and have positively altered the family planning landscape generating increased engagement on its social media platforms and calls for training by different levels of Healthcare providers including lower cadres like CHEWs.
The most repeated feedback from all callers into the radio programme was, ‘Thank you DKT, we need this’.
Also, the overwhelming requests for further enlightenment and training from health providers is a powerful validation of DKT Nigeria’s decision to begin a radio campaign in the South-Eastern region and shows a huge contraceptive information gap in this region.
DKT’s first radio programme was launched on Magic FM, Abia state in Igbo language. It recorded over seventy phone calls within a 45-minute period.
The radio programme titles caught on quickly and we did not try to reinvent the wheel but instead leveraged airing our content on high listener-ship stations.
The ear-catching radio titles also helped to arouse curiosity with its target audience, titles such as ‘Man and Woman Mata’, ‘Oge Akuko Umunwoke na Ununwanyi’ (Time for Man and Woman), ‘Contraceptive Chat with DKT Nigeria’, amongst others.
The launch in this region has made the people aware of DKT Nigeria’s products and DKT believe it would stir up demands in that region due to the flood of messages received on its shortcode platform concerned with the product name and referral on where to get the products, especially the emergency pill, POSTPILL.
From the calls received, it was clear that most people in this region have low awareness of the different contraceptive methods and trusted brands to opt for. The feedback has been positive so far, as they are eager to try DKTs contraceptives.
This radio campaign has been successful and it is clear that it would improve the distribution and uptake of DKTs Effective, Safe, Affordable and Quality contraceptive products in the South-South and South-East region as well as revealed the overwhelming unmet need for contraception among thesouthern people of Nigeria.
