Dr. Bartholomew Ebong, group managing director/Chief Executive, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc has called on the six Governors of the South – South region to work in unison to develop a good policy platform for the rapid development of the region.
He made the call at the First South – South Economic Summit held at the Tinapa Business Resort in Calabar, Cross River State recently.
Dr. Ebong stressed that the banks, especially Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, were always willing to assist in adding value to the economy of the South South Region, adding “all they need is a good policy platform”.
He lamented that over the years, the South-South region had been depressed saying that at least 60 per cent of the seven – point agenda of the present administration could be achieved through the genuine exploitation of the vast economic potentials available in the region.
The Union Bank boss said the South-South Summit was a major step forward in reviewing the economic situation in the region and also articulating strategies on how the abundant resources in the region could be harnessed to achieve development.
He further stated that the rapid transformation of the South-South region would eliminate militancy, which he noted was a reaction to the depression that the region had suffered over the years.
Dr. Ebong was an active participant at the three-day Summit organized by the six States of the South-South Nigeria for investors, developers and operators also co-sponsored by Union Bank of Nigeria Plc to address challenges facing the region.
